hey guys! i’ve been seeing a lot of questions about how to film audition videos, so i wanted to drop a quick guide. remember, the scouts watch hundreds of clips a day, so u only have like 5 seconds to grab their attention. here is how to make those seconds count:

1. Lighting is EVERYTHING ☀️

don’t film in a dark room with just your desk lamp lol. natural light is your best friend. stand facing a window during the day. if u look blurry or grainy, they can’t see your visuals or your lines properly.

2. The "Vertical vs Horizontal" Struggle 📱

  • Dance: always film horizontal (landscape). they need to see your full body from head to toe. don’t let your feet or hands get cut off!
  • Vocal/Introduction: vertical (portrait) is usually fine, but check the agency's specific rules first. keep the camera at eye level—not too high, not too low.

3. Background Check 🧹

keep it clean! a messy bed or a pile of laundry in the back is a huge distraction. a plain white or neutral wall is the gold standard. u want you to be the focus, not your room decor.

4. No Filters/Heavy Makeup 💄

this is super important. k-pop scouts want to see your "raw" face. skip the snow/beauty filters and keep your makeup minimal. if u hide your features, they’ll just pass on u because they don't know what u actually look like.

5. Audio Quality 🎤

for vocals, don’t use a mic with crazy reverb or autotune. they want to hear your natural tone. for dance, make sure the music is loud enough to hear but not so loud that it cracks the audio.

bonus tip: start with a clear, confident intro. "hello, my name is [name], i'm [age] years old, from [country]." smile and show your personality right away!

good luck everyone, let’s get those callbacks! 🍀

so last summer i was in korea and actually got street-casted (huge shocker lol). that’s when i started dreaming of becoming an idol, but because of some personal stuff, i can’t move to seoul to train right now. 😭

i’m feeling so much fomo watching everyone else progress. what should i even practice alone at home to not fall behind? is it mostly just filming dance covers or should i focus on vocal lessons? any tips for a "lonely" trainee would be a lifesaver.

I did ballet seriously until middle school, and I’m wondering if I should show off some turns during my next audition. I’ve seen some idols do it as their "special talent," but I don’t want to look like I’m auditioning for a Nutcracker remake lol. 😭

Do u guys think a clean pirouette or some graceful lines would make me stand out, or is it better to just stick to 100% hip-hop/modern vibes? I feel like it could be my "Signature Point," but I’m lowkey scared of looking out of place. Any advice? ✨

I just got another "We will keep your profile on file" email. It hurts more every time. 💔

I’ve been training for 3 years, and sometimes I look at my friends in college and wonder if I’m just wasting my youth. 🌏 Does the passion ever run out? How do u guys stay motivated when u don't see an end date? Is there a "Sign" that tells u to keep going or to stop?

I talked to a mentor who said that scouts look for a "Signature Point" that makes u memorable.

It could be a specific way u tuck your hair, a unique hand gesture during the chorus, or even a 'signature scent' (though they can't smell u through the screen lol). They want to see your Personal Brand. What’s the one thing that makes u 'YOU' in a room full of 100 dancers? Let's brainstorm our USP (Unique Selling Point)!

After the success of groups based in the US or Japan, it feels like the big agencies are opening more auditions specifically for people who WON'T move to Korea.

Part of me is happy because I can stay home, but part of me wants the full "Seoul Trainee" experience. What’s the vibe lately? Are u guys applying for 'Global' units or aiming for a spot in a domestic group?

I was walking back to my dorm after practice and the sky looked exactly like the one back in my hometown. It hit me so hard. Sometimes I forget how much I sacrificed to be here in Seoul. I love the grind, but damn, I really miss my mom’s cooking today. Sending love to all the global trainees out there! We’re doing this for a reason, right? ✊✨

I swear, if I hear that "SWIM" intro one more time in the studio hall, I’m gonna lose it. lol.

It’s definitely the "it" song right now since it’s trending globally, but isn't it risky? The footwork is insane and if u don't have the groove, u just look like u're struggling. Are u guys brave enough to put it on your eval list or are u sticking to the classics?

My vocal eval was today and I was so nervous that my pronunciation went out the window. I literally mispronounced the batchim and the judges chuckled.

I wanted to vanish into thin air. lol. Do u guys think they take off major points for bad pronunciation if the tone is good? I feel like I just ruined my chance of being in the "vocal line." Should I re-record a demo and send it to my manager or just let it slide?

I’ve been stuck on salads and grilled chicken forever because it’s the easiest thing to find here in the West, but I’m honestly getting so bored of it. 😭

I’ve been seeing so many Korean trainees doing the "Sweet Potato + Soy Milk" combo and it looks so filling and "Idol-coded" lol. I really want to try more Korean-style diet hacks!

What are u guys eating to stay in shape for evals? Are there any specific snacks or meals from your country that are healthy but actually taste good? Let’s swap some recipes/tips so we don't die of boredom! lol. Help me escape the salad cycle!
