I grew up in California where I literally call my high school dance teachers by their first names or just say "Hey dude!"
But I'm attending a major Korean agency’s open call in LA next month, and I'm terrified of accidentally looking disrespectful. I know the senior-junior and age system in Korea is huge. When the judges walk in, do I do a full 90-degree bow, or is a polite 30-degree nod enough for a global kid? And if there are other trainees in the room who are older than me, should I immediately act more reserved? Help a clueless American out.
As a native English speaker, when I first got into K-pop, some lyrics sounded grammatically illegal. Like, "I'm super shy, super shy" or random catchphrases that don't make total sense in a Western pop song.
But after studying K-pop production, I realized it’s pure genius. Korean producers don't care about perfect grammar; they care about "Phonetics & Rhythm." English words with crisp consonants like 'P', 'T', or 'Ch' sound so much punchier when mixed with Korean vowels. Now, when I write my own audition raps, I purposely twist the English syntax to match that bouncy K-pop rhythm. It slaps so much harder.
Since I.O.I is having their comeback, I saw a viral post of Yoojung sunbaenim's old trainee notebooks and I’m speechless 😭
She literally filled pages with tiny handwriting analyzing coach feedback, choreo formations, and vocal details!!
It made me realize that getting picked by the public and becoming iconic doesn't happen by accident, and I lowkey feel ashamed of my lazy journal entries 💀
To become a superstar, you really need that blood, sweat, and tears backstory to have that true main character energy fr.

Was taking a mirror selfie in the practice room and my imagination just went wild lol Personally, Karina sunbaenim’s Prada fits have been so gorgeous lately, so I’m 100% manifesting Prada ㅠㅠ 🖤 Thinking about rocking a kitschy yet high-end fit for airport pictures gives me a literal adrenaline boost for practice!! When you're exhausted, image-training your future magazine covers or ambassadorships is lowkey so therapeutic ✨ Comment below with the brand you think matches your visual and vibe perfectly!! ✊⚡️
I just got back from a company's Round 2 in-person audition, and since I’m preparing for the next round, I wanted to share the question list to help other trainees out! After the basic dance/vocal evaluation, they did a camera test and asked: "Who is your role model among the idols in our company and why?" and "What role do you usually play when living in a group/team?" I felt like they were really checking our personality and if we fit the company vibe, not just skills! Anyone else went to a Round 2 lately? Let’s trade info!!
I’m preparing a vocal cover of a beautiful Korean R&B track. I translated the lyrics, so I know the general meaning is about a breakup.
But when I watch myself sing it, my facial expressions look so flat or fake. It feels like I’m just pronouncing words rather than telling a story. 📉 For those who aren't fluent in Korean yet, how do u tap into the emotional nuance of the language? Do u connect the lyrics to personal memories, or is there a specific technique to make the diction sound more emotional?
I started working out recently to build up my stamina for dancing, but finding the perfect time slot is so tricky! Do you guys start your "that girl" routine with fasted cardio in the morning, sweat it out during midday, or crush it at night after leaving the practice room? 🔥 Honestly, waking up early means my body is too stiff, but at night I’m too exhausted from practice. When do you guys fit it into your routine? Drop your favorite workout time below 🤍
Have you guys checked out LE SSERAFIM’s 'Boompala' or ILLIT’s 'It's Me' yet? K-pop trends move so fast these days, it's honestly impossible to keep up ㅋㅋㅋ I’m so curious what kind of genre or concept is going to dominate the charts next ⚡️ Since what these big labels look for keeps changing, we really have to keep studying the trends for our auditions ㅠㅠ
My family is already planning our summer vacation and the family group chat is blowing up, but I’m literally crying because I can't go ㅠㅠ Between the upcoming audition schedules and weekend lessons, I’m officially a permanent resident of the practice room this summer 😭 Being an idol trainee is so tough sometimes... but I'll sweat it out now for my future superstar vacations! 🔥
I just finished my audition today, and honestly, I was so nervous in the waiting room I thought I was going to throw up 😭 But right before walking in, I took three deep breaths and changed my mindset completely—and it worked like magic! I didn't shake at all and nailed everything. Here’s what I told myself:
"This is MY solo concert, and those judges paid top dollar just to see ME perform."
When I viewed them as scary judges analyzing my every move, my voice used to crack. But the moment I pretended they were my fans, I instantly got this confident smirk and my eyes lit up! One of the judges even smiled and jotted something down when I left ㅠㅠ Anyone else have a go-to mantra or routine to crush audition anxiety? Drop your tips below so I can try them next time! 🍀🤍
