I’ve been filming so many self-tapes lately for global auditions (SM, Pledis, you name it!), and I realized that small mistakes can totally ruin a great performance. Before you upload your hard-earned talent, run through this 2026 survival checklist:
- Clean the Lens: Sounds basic, but a fingerprint on the camera lens makes the video look blurry and unprofessional. Wipe it!
- No Beauty Filters: Companies in 2026 want to see your REAL skin and face shape. Filters are a huge "No"—they want to see the raw potential.
- Eye-Contact with the LENS: Don't look at yourself on the screen! Look directly into the black dot of the camera. That’s how you "communicate" with the judges.
- Lighting is Key: Stand facing a window during the day or use a ring light. Shadowy faces hide your expressions!
- Check the Audio: Make sure the music isn't drowning out your voice. We need to hear your 100% raw vocals!
Don't let a technical error hide your star quality. We've worked way too hard for that! Let's all get those "Pass" emails this year. 💌
Music balance is so tricky, but we need those raw vocals to shine!
The 'looking at the screen' trap is SO REAL. 😭 I used to do that all the time because I wanted to check my hair lol. But once I started staring at the lens, my videos felt 10x more powerful.
No Filters = No Lies. 💅 I know it’s scary to show our raw skin, but companies actually respect the confidence. If they see a 'filtered' face and then meet you in person, it creates a weird gap.
I once filmed a 2-hour dance cover and realized there was a huge smudge on the lens. I literally wanted to cry. lol.
