Stuck in my "Hip-Hop" habits... how do I clean up my dance lines?
Hope you all had a productive day! So here’s my struggle: my dance feels way too biased toward one genre. I’ve done Hip-Hop for years, so no matter what choreo I do, those old habits always creep in and make my lines look messy. ㅠㅠ
But as an idol, you need to be a chameleon and pull off every concept, right? Do you think I should try something totally different, like Ballet or Contemporary, to fix my posture and lines? If anyone here has successfully transitioned from one style to a more "all-rounder" vibe, please tell me how you trained!
Girl, having a Hip-hop base is actually a blessing! You already have the swag that’s hard to teach. To clean up your lines, try 'Vogue' or 'Waacking.'
Contemporary dance is a total game changer. It teaches you how to use your core and fingertips. I used to be very 'heavy' with my moves too, but after a few months of contemporary, I learned how to look 'light' and graceful like IVE's Wonyoung.
Spend 30 mins every day just doing neck, shoulder, and chest isolations in front of a mirror. If you can control every part of your body separately, those messy habits won't creep in as much.
Mate, I feel this in my soul! 😭 Coming from a street dance background in Australia, my lines used to be so 'crunchy.' I started taking basic Ballet once a week and it’s a total game changer for posture. You should definitely go for it!
That’s your 'flavor.' The goal isn't to delete your habits, it’s just to add a 'clean filter' over them. Think of yourself as a Chameleon
